It’s a case of keeping it local for Midlands manufacturers

Two thriving Birmingham firms have come together with an innovative approach to manufacturing whilst they continue to fly the flag for local partnerships.

CMA Moldform, which specialises in low volume production and prototyping solutions across a wide range of sectors, first started working with Zero Cases after meeting at the Made in the Midlands Manufacturing Summit earlier this year.

After discovering a joint passion for ‘out of the box thinking’ and innovative processes, the two firms have created a budding relationship which has already lead to a number of exciting new projects.

When CMA visited Zero’s Smethwick based site it became obvious just how many opportunities there were for the two companies to work together, the first of which provided both a cost effective and time efficient solution for the international protective case manufacturer.

Mike Dimmack, Plant Manager for Zero Cases said:

“I was first drawn to CMA when I saw their prototyping capabilities at the show, and I had a number of projects in mind that could benefit from their assistance. However it was only when they visited our site that I realised the full extent of their capabilities and how much possibility there was for collaboration.”

The first project that CMA were tasked with involved reproducing a small number of rubber feet which attach to the bottom of Zero’s protective cases, providing a raised platform and a stacking mechanism for easier storage and transportation.

Zero were only able to order from their existing supplier in batches of over 1,000, but with a requirement of just 80 needed for the current job CMA were able to reverse engineer and re-produce the exact number needed in record time.

CMA Moldform’s Group Managing Director, Mark Lowe said:

“It’s a fantastic feeling for us when we are able to turn a project around like this so quickly. We have not only bridged a gap in Zero Cases production process and ultimately reduced their lead times, but we have made a fantastic new business connection that really has no limits except for our own ideas.”

Mark added “Looking around at Zero Cases vast range of products, it’s got us thinking about the way we transport our own products to customers and we are looking at how, with Zero’s help, we can develop a bespoke CMA case to add value to our customers high-value deliveries.”
