Whether you require replica bird’s eggs, sculptures, mannequins, pre-production prototypes, or something as large as the body shell for a kit car, Birmingham manufacturer CMA Moldform Ltd is the company to do it!

CMA have just invested in the installation of a very large, state of the art Rotacaster, which gives quality, reliability, consistency and total control over the hollow casting process.

What is a Rotacaster ?

It's a machine to enable the casting of hollow forms. Room temperature liquid casting materials are poured into a hollow mould and rotated simultaneously in two directions. The resulting cast can be left hollow, cut open to form 'shells', or back-filled to create solid products. It's referred to as rotacasting (or rotocasting), rotational moulding or, when done by hand, slush casting. Unlike rotomoulding, the process doesn't involve heated moulds, so it's a highly cost-effective, efficient and a flexible method of casting.

Balanced moulds produce better casts from the moulds, with a more consistent wall thickness and high quality detail definition. Whether you are casting replica birds' eggs, sculptures, mannequins, pre-production prototypes, or something as large as the body shell for a kit car.  Balancing the machine has been made easy, with counterweights to balance moulds/casts up to 200kgs. There is also a highly controllable Rock’n’Roll function that helps when casting long, narrow shapes.

There is wide variety of casting materials that work well with RotaCast machines including polyurethane resins, polyester resins, synthetic rubbers, art and synthetic gypsum, chopped strand materials and even metallised gel coats, to name but a few.

Specification:

Max Mould Weight: 200kg (depending on specification)

Max Mould Diameter: 2,000mm(depending on specification)

Max Mould Height: 2,000mm (depending on specification)

Peter Turnock, MD of CMA Moldform commented; "this new addition to our manufacturing facility gives us greater flexibility on the type of work we can undertake and also enables low cost production runs to be carried out in a much shorter period of time."
