CMA Moldform’s creation of special effects for the 2012 blockbuster hit ‘Prometheus’ successfully earnt them the title of category winner of the Made in the Midland’s award for ‘Innovation.’  The award, sponsored by R&D Tax Claims Ltd, was presented to Managing Director, Peter Turnock, in recognition of the extensive research and development that was carried out to produce the clear, bubble-like helmets used in the film.

CMA Moldform are, however, not strangers to creating special effect items for the silver-screen and have a number of Bond Movies on their client list.  Considerable research and development went into establishing the necessary resin to produce crystal clear, optically clear helmets.  Some of the helmets were manufactured for continuous use and some were designed to fracture during filming without harming the actor wearing it.  It was necessary to develop a ‘smash’ resin to achieve the correct breakaway effects.  The project involved producing over 100 units for production.
